What a busy month this has been. Skip Thomas Adventures has been to author events and is waiting for shipment of Skip Thomas’ Birthday.

Our first event, hosted by Sheree Bingham and Britney Mills, was Simply Books in Tremonton, Utah at the Box Elder County Fairgrounds. We were among some very impressive writers and felt honored that we were invited. There were over twenty authors showcasing multiple genres. I loved getting to know my fellow storytellers and finding out just how they got started. Also, where they got their ideas for writing. Not gonna lie, I did buy a book. Despite the long drive, 198 miles round trip, we were very successful.

The next weekend we were at the First Edition Bookstore in Tooele, Utah for an author meet-and-greet and live reading event. Abigail Hall and fiance Darren Golliet, owners of the bookstore, were gracious enough to invite us back to their event. Here we met more talented writers. And yes, I did support a few and bought some more books. The hubs gets mad at me, I’m sure, but I just love to read!

Here’s a little history for you. Many years ago, the building housing the First Edition Bookstore was the Tooele Valley Hospital. It was first built in 1873 as a residence for Samual F. Lee’s family. In 1913 it was converted into an old folks home, called the “County Poor House.” Then in 1953 it became a poorly funded hospital. Some very sad stories about the hospital and rest home have been told throughout the years. There have been many reports of ghosts inhabiting the premises. Though the original building no longer stands, the hospital closed in 2002 and is now called Asylum 49. This haunted building is great at Halloween. While another section now hosts multiple artisan shops, spirits are said to still be roaming the halls and showing their presence in certain hospital rooms and other areas. It’s come a long way from the days when I delivered Fed Ex packages there or visited the nursing home. I remember it well and don’t doubt any of the paranormal activities that have been reported.

July 25th gave us great news from Signature Book Printing in Maryland. Skip Thomas’ Birthday books were shipped! Yay! Delivery should be sometime soon, the last week of this month or the first week of August. We will keep you updated.

This has been a fun month for us. We have more events planned to come soon and will keep you posted as they get near.
