NEWCOMER'S LUNCHEON

November’s story takes us out of our comfort zone. We were invited to speak at a luncheon for the Newcomer’s Club of Salt Lake City, Inc.. This organization “promotes, extends and supports civic, social, patriotic, and charitable endeavors in the community.” The group is quite large and offers many activities throughout each month.

We met some of the members at the Provisions restaurant at 3434 S. 2300 E., Salt Lake City, Utah. It was the perfect spot for an intimate gathering of about fifty people. During social hour, we mingled with the president and first vice president. We were then introduced to others, who were all so friendly and kind. I really don’t know why I was so nervous to speak with these people, they were just like us. It was just a new and different experience.

After cocktail hour, dinner was served. I had the butternut squash soup with coconut milk, ginger, apple and sage. Tim had the grilled gem salad with smoked bacon ranch, blue cheese dressing. We both had the grilled salmon, potato puree, braised greens, cider reduction. I gotta say, this was amazing. I recommend you go give this place a try. The chef and servers treated us all like royalty and the food was delicious.

After dinner, it was time for our speech. We spoke about our books, of course, how they came about, the process of self-publishing and the charities we support. Questions and answers followed.

We really had an enjoyable time. We met some great folks, and who’s to say we don’t join their club one day. I’m going to leave you with their information if anyone is interested in what they do. newcomersclubsaltlakecity.org
